Back to Basics: Are You Ready for Construction Fall Hazards?
- Effective July 1, 2024, California’s new workplace violence prevention safety law requires nearly all employers to adopt a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP), train employees on workplace violence, and log safety incidents.
- Senate Bill 553, codified in California Labor Code section 6401.9, broadly applies to most employers with exceptions for remote employees, small non-public workplaces, certain healthcare facilities, and law enforcement.
- Employers must maintain a WVPP at all facilities, customized to specific hazards, involve employees in its development, record violent incidents, review plans annually, and provide effective training.
- The WVPP must be accessible to employees, and employers cannot retaliate against employees seeking emergency assistance during violent incidents.
