Boston expands construction safety requirements
- The City of Boston is implementing the Safe Construction and Demolition Operations Ordinance, requiring safety plans, safety meetings, and safety coordinators for construction and demolition permit applications, effective December 1.
- -The Boston Inspectional Services Department will enforce safety measures, issue violations, and impose fines on non-compliant parties, backed by training and informational resources for stakeholders.
- This ordinance follows the Construction Safety Ordinance signed by Boston Mayor Michelle Wu on June 1, aiming to enhance enforcement and safety measures in response to construction site accidents.
- Boston’s commitment to reducing construction-related injuries aligns with similar efforts in other major U.S. cities, including New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and more, each implementing their own safety regulations for construction and demolition projects.
