The U.S. Department of Labor has proposed a new rule to clarify the personal protective equipment (PPE) standard for the construction industry. The current standard lacks a clear statement that PPE must fit each affected employee properly. The proposed change aims to ensure that PPE fits properly to effectively protect workers from hazards. This revision would align the construction industry’s PPE standard with general industry and maritime standards. The proposal aims to address safety and health concerns, especially for physically smaller construction workers who may face issues with ill-fitting PPE. Comments and hearing requests can be submitted online until September 18, 2023.
