California’s Workplace Violence Prevention Requirements for Your Worksite [Podcast]
Starting July 1, 2024, California employers must establish, implement, and maintain an effective workplace violence prevention plan, including a violent incident log, training, feedback solicitation, and periodic reviews.
The Division of Occupational Safety and Health (CalOSHA) will enforce these requirements, which apply to various industries but include exceptions like healthcare facilities and law enforcement.
Compliance challenges include tailoring plans and training for each work site, addressing multi-employer work sites, and navigating uncertainties such as e-learning acceptability and coordinating with other employers.
Non-compliance risks include CalOSHA citations with penalties up to $160,000, workers’ compensation claims, and reputational damage, emphasizing the importance of proactive compliance efforts.
