California’s Workplace Violence Prevention Requirements for Your Worksite [Podcast]
- Starting July 1, 2024, California employers must establish, implement, and maintain an effective workplace violence prevention plan, including a violent incident log, training, feedback solicitation, and periodic reviews.
- The Division of Occupational Safety and Health (CalOSHA) will enforce these requirements, which apply to various industries but include exceptions like healthcare facilities and law enforcement.
- Compliance challenges include tailoring plans and training for each work site, addressing multi-employer work sites, and navigating uncertainties such as e-learning acceptability and coordinating with other employers.
- Non-compliance risks include CalOSHA citations with penalties up to $160,000, workers’ compensation claims, and reputational damage, emphasizing the importance of proactive compliance efforts.
