OSHA is amending the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) to align with the UN’s Globally Harmonized System (GHS) Revision 7 and address issues from the 2012 HCS update.
The revisions aim to improve alignment with other U.S. agencies and international trading partners, enhancing the standard’s effectiveness.
Changes include revised criteria for health and physical hazard classification, updated labeling provisions, new labeling for small containers, and trade secret provisions.
These modifications are expected to better inform employees about chemical hazards, reducing chemical-related occupational illnesses and injuries.
