New data bulletin examines construction fatalities
Increased Fatalities: In 2022, nearly 1,100 construction workers died, marking a 7.6% increase from 2021, with a fatality rate of 9.3 per 100,000 full-time equivalent workers.
Demographic Impact: Hispanic workers accounted for 37.4% of fatalities, while workers aged 55 and older made up 31.1% of the deaths.
Common Causes: Falls to a lower level were responsible for 36.4% of fatalities, and vehicular incidents on roadways accounted for nearly 14%.
High-Risk Occupations: Roofers had the highest fatality rate among construction workers at 57.5 per 100,000 FTEs, followed by construction helpers at 38.5 per 100,000 FTEs.
