The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has become a valuable partner to firms involved in building and maintaining the U.S. power grid, helping to prevent serious injuries and save lives. This partnership, known as the Electrical Transmission and Distribution (ET&D) strategic partnership, was formed in 2004 to focus solely on safety issues in the industry. It includes firms, a labor union, and trade associations. Through data analysis, best practices, and training programs, the partnership has significantly improved safety in the industry. OSHA estimates that the industry’s average fatality rate dropped from over 40 deaths per 100,000 workers per year before the partnership to less than four per year from 2018 to 2022.
