NSC Report Names Heat Stress, Fatigue Among Biggest Safety Risks for Crane Industry
- Report Overview: The NSC and NCCCO Foundation released a report on crane industry safety risks, based on a survey of 2,200 respondents.
- Key Findings: The report highlights working at height, vehicle-pedestrian interactions, and material handling as major hazards, contributing to 30% of non-roadway workplace deaths in 2020. Heat stress and fatigue are key injury risks.
- Training and Injuries: Despite 80% having access to safety training, 7% of personal injuries and 8% of on-site injuries were due to lack of proper training. Falls from height and struck-by hazards are common causes.
- Technology Usage: 1% to 13% of respondents use safety tech like drones and proximity sensors. Data privacy concerns hinder wider adoption.
